Want a Sandy Beach on Your Lakefront?

What is a Beach Blanket?

A beach blanket is a layer of clean sand or gravel placed along the shoreline to create a more usable, enjoyable beach area.

Will a Beach Work on Your Shoreline?

Not every shoreline is suited for a beach. Before installing, a few key factors need to be considered:

  • Lake bottom conditions matter – Soft, mucky bottoms may not hold material, causing it to sink over time
  • Erosion & movement – Improper material can wash away and impact water quality
  • Natural habitat – Shorelines play an important role in fish spawning and aquatic life
  • Vegetation – Some plant life must remain, and additional maintenance may be required

Important Guidelines

Beach installations must follow state and local regulations. In general:

  • Material must be clean, washed, and properly sized (coarse sand or larger)
  • Placement is limited in thickness, width, and distance into the water
  • No fabric or liners are allowed under the sand
  • Certain vegetation areas may require permits before disturbance
  • Notification to local authorities may be required prior to installation

Do You Need a Permit?

In many cases, a permit is not required if installation meets specific guidelines—but additional permits may be needed depending on your property and project.
